Ben Beaumont tossed the dregs of his coffee into a bush, his gaze touching on each of his men before scanning the area again. Three more days and he’d be home. For the fourth time in as many years, he and his brother, Wade, made the long cattle drive from Texas to Montana. This would be their last.

Several of the ranch hands made claims on their behalf. Combined they finally had more than ten thousand acres and enough cattle to build their ranch on. He wished their folks could have seen it.

With beef prices up North rising and the large amount of newcomers, he and Wade manager to build something grand. With this additional cattle, they would do even better.

He loved his home, and he hated being away from it. Their foreman, Jeb Smith, handled everything well enough while they were gone, but Ben still hated not being there. There would be a million and one things that needed his attention when he got back.

He had a good life, a life he and his brother worked hard for. They had everything they’d ever wanted.

Except a good woman.
