Took You For Granted by LM Spangler

Took You For Granted Cover

Blurb:
She lost him seven years ago. Now he’s back in her life…
and back in her bed.

April Donovan thought she’d gotten over Grant Carmichael.
He broke her heart, took her feelings for granted, and chose a
baseball career over her. She moved on with her life and eventually
healed. Seven years later, a chance meeting throws that theory
asunder, and several passionate moments rekindle the fire.
He wants her again—mind, soul, and…body

Excerpt:
And in about five minutes, he would be
strolling back into her life. Not on a permanent
basis, but she would see him again, and a flood of
emotions would swallow her in their depths. She’d
want him, both with her mind and her heart. She
would fight, and she would lose the battle.
As a settlement agent, her job was to close real
estate transactions. Grant was a real estate broker
who, along with his brothers, purchased houses,
renovated them, and then flipped them for a profit.
He had been quite successful and often used
her. “April Donovan, it is you. I had wondered if
AD stood for you.”
She motioned toward a visitor’s chair opposite
her. “Mr. Carmichael. Please sit down.” No, don’t
sit. He stood astute and gorgeous in a charcoal,
three-piece suit, with a soft gray dress shirt and
burgundy tie. The slim fit complemented his
physique. The Grant she remembered had worn
jeans and T-shirts. This version was one hundred
percent eye candy.
His head tilted to the side, and his lips formed a
thin line. “We have a past. No need for formalities.”
April prayed her pulse wasn’t visibly pounding
in her neck. Her eyes bored into his. Damn, he’s
still gorgeous. His black hair was trimmed close to
his head on the sides and longer and more
disheveled on top, suiting his angular face. His jaw
was still strong and could probably still take a
punch. She had seen it happen before. Her gaze fell
to his lips—lips that could make her tremble as they
moved over her skin. Heat flooded her core, and she
clenched her thighs together.
She cleared her throat. “That is correct, Mr.
Carmichael. We did have a past, but we have
nothing now.”
His brows rose, and a slow, sexy grin turned his
lips upward. “Okay. We can play it your way.” He
lowered his six-foot, two-inch frame into the vacant
seat. “For now.”

PG EXCERPT:

“You look like you could use some help,” I said, coming to stand in front of her. At six-foot-two, I towered over most women, but the flame-haired beauty didn’t have to crane her neck much to keep our gazes connected. Pale lashes, red at the tips, framed eyes blue as a summer sky, wide and a bit unfocused. Freckles covered her tanned skin, adding an innocent appearance that didn’t match her troubled eyes.

“G—Got a smoke?” she whispered and swallowed, the pulse in her neck galloping.

“Gave that sh** up a few years back.” My gaze lingered on her naked, plump lips. “You okay?”

“Yeah.” Her attempted smile faltered, and she ran her palms down her thighs. “Trying to adjust to being a civilian again. Crowds like this…”

“Been there.”

Her gaze snapped up from my leather vest with its patches declaring who I was. “Army?”

“Navy.”

She rubbed her naked lips together, and I stared. “Did you see any action?”

“Afghanistan.” I held up my hand. “Lost these two fingers, lost my ability to be a SEAL, and got an honorable discharge when my contract expired.” I glanced from one of her pale eyes to the other, trying to read the turmoil inside. “You?”

She swallowed again and nodded, glancing around.

I knew when not to pry. “I’m Gunner.” I held out my whole hand, and the touch of her soft grip raced a shot of lust straight to my groin.

“Shelby.”

Escaped tendrils of her hair blew over her freckled face in a breeze that held no hint of fall air. “Got a red ’66 Shelby in my garage at home.”

A bit of life lightened her gaze. “My father might have had a thing for mustangs once upon a time.”

“I like him already,” I said with a grin, finally releasing my hold on her hand.

“He passed a few years ago.”

My lips flat-lined, and I shoved my hands in my pockets as the desire to wrap her up in my arms and comfort her made me twitch. I was all about getting some, but the emotional connection? I sure as f*** wasn’t looking for that sh** since I had enough of my own to deal with. “Sorry for your loss.”

“Thanks.” She glanced over her shoulder and wrapped her own arms around her midsection, needing that hug my body wanted to offer even if my brain didn’t.

Deflated but not defeated for possibly hooking up with Shelby in the future, I angled my thoughts toward being her friend. I wasn’t a total douche, after all. “Do you have a support group? They’re great for helping vets like us transition back to civilian life.”

“No. I just got back home three weeks ago.”

“There’s lots of groups—I can give you some names and numbers.” I wanted to offer my own, but bit my tongue.

“I have crowd issues.” Her voice small, gaze flitting—she was similar to many such souls returning from war. “I only came down here to meet my cousin. Otherwise?” She shook her head with a huffed, faked laugh.

“A therapist, then?”

She shrugged and glanced over her shoulder as a loud truck rumbled past.

“It’s safe here,” I said, a part of me softening in ways I’d almost thought long gone from my personality since returning home and joining the Devil’s Outlaws. “Middle of D.C., people here who’ve gone through what you have, myself included, there’s nothing to be—”

Pop! Pop! Pop!

Instinctively, I grabbed Shelby and threw her to the ground behind the closest cement bench, crowding against her curled up form as burst shots sounded close by.

ADULT EXCERPT:

Appropriate or not, I rifled through Shelby’s bureau, pulling out comfortable-looking clothing rather than the sexy underthings I’d have loved to see on her body. The second she’d stripped down to a mere t-shirt, nipples pebbled from the cold air of the house, my dick had decided to fuck with the goddamn situation and enjoy the sights.

And her ass beneath those damn fatigues? Shit. Even better than I’d imagined.

I adjusted myself, teeth clenched, and made my way back across the hallway to the closed bathroom door. My soft knock went unanswered, and I opened the door enough to speak though. A blast of that herbal scent from her shampoo tightened my dick to the point of pain.

“I got you some clothes,” I said, slipping them onto the sink beside the door, keeping my gaze averted from the shower directly ahead.

“Thanks.” Her voice broke.

“You okay?” How many times had I asked her that, knowing she’d say yes even though she wasn’t? I wasn’t usually one for a loss of words. “Shelby?”

“Y—Yeah.” She sniffled a bit, and the shower shut off.

I forced myself to step back into the hall and quietly closed the door in front of me. Shelby had to be in shock—I wouldn’t put it past her to climb out of the shower without a thought of her nudity while I stood in the doorway.

Dick aching, hands clenched at my sides, I told myself she needed a friend, nothing more. Sitting on the edge of her bed to wait for her didn’t lessen the tight confines of my leathers. A bookshelf on the far wall held old paperbacks, pictures, and knickknacks, and even an old gray stuffed bunny that looked well-worn and well-loved.

I wondered at her life before that day, her childhood, what happy moments she’d tucked away in her memory. I wondered, too, at the life ahead of her and how she would cope with becoming a civilian again—alone, without family except for a cousin she wasn’t close with, and without the brotherhood-type club that had helped me.

While I expected she wouldn’t be able to handle group therapy, I knew of two therapists who would fit her in if asked. Talking her into it would be another matter altogether since most returning vets didn’t want to be seen as being weak—even though seeking help wasn’t in my book.

With a shitty family—old, drunk dad, deceased mom, younger sister addicted to pain killers—I’d been thankful to find someone who helped me unload. I’d had a few girlfriends here and there, but none of them had understood my need for the Navy and the Outlaws after getting out. I needed that companionship, that brotherhood that gave my life meaning after struggling to adapt to home again.

Shelby’s arrival in the bedroom’s doorway prickled my skin with awareness and wiped all thoughts but her from my head.

Waves of damp red hair hung to her waist. She’d gone without the bra I’d included in the pile of clothes, and the tight t-shirt revealed every goddamn curve of her plump tits, including her tightened nipples.

I clenched my teeth and tore my gaze off her before my eyes could eat up her long legs encased in dark leggings and wonder at the color of hair hiding her pussy. “Come over here,” I said, pulling back her comforter and angling my body away from hers to hide my straining erection.

She obeyed without a word, curling on her side to face me, hands folded beneath her cheek. Light blue eyes fringed with equally pale lashes with a hint of red at their tips, peered up at me as I slouched to a crouch beside her bed.

My hand moved on its own to smooth strands of her hair away from her face, and she sighed, her eyelids fluttering shut beneath my touch, her freckles stark against her pale skin. “Will you stay while I sleep?”

“If you want me to.”

“Yes. Beside me, please.” Her brow furrowed. “I—I can’t be alone right now.”

Knowing there was no way in fuck I could crawl under the covers and hold her close, I laid down on top of her comforter behind her after texting Brewer to let him know I wouldn’t be returning to the compound that night. Shelby turned and tucked herself into me the best she could considering the blankets between us and let out another sigh.

“Thank you for saving my life and bringing me home.”

“Thank you for allowing me to be your knight in shining armor.”

A huff of light laughter escaped her, and my lips responded. I pulled her closer, settling her cheek on my chest and rubbed my fingertips against her scalp.

“Promise you’ll be here when I wake?” she murmured, her voice fading.

“Promise, sweet thing. Close your eyes and sleep. I’ll keep you safe.”

Chants to Persephone by Jennifer Macaire

Chants to Persephone

by Jennifer Macaire

In the fifth book in the Time For Alexander series, the Thief of Souls has stolen Alexander’s soul, and the druids have foretold the end of their world and have raised an army to kidnap Paul. They mean to stop Rome from invading Gaul and thus change the course of time. Meanwhile, an oracle tells Alexander and Ashley they must go to the Land of the Eaters of the Dead.

Paul has stowed away on their ship, and Nearchus has decided that now is the time to profess his love to Alexander. To further complicate things, Charidmus, an old foe of Alexander’s, recognizes him and realizes he hasn’t died. Ashley knows she must stop the druids, find the Thief of Souls, keep Charidemus quiet, somehow get Nearchus out of their bed, and time back on track – or the Time Senders are going to have a fit. There’s also a small matter of a human sacrifice with Alexander as the chosen victim. What’s a time traveller to do?

‘Who is Voltarrix, and what is a thief of souls?’ I asked Yovanix, the Gallic slave who had joined us on our voyage.

‘In Celtic myth, it’s a druid who can steal souls.’ He made a face. ‘I’m not explaining this very well. I’m not Celt you see. But if Anoramix was afraid of him, I would be frightened too. Anoramix was never afraid of anything, not even death. There’s one last thing I should tell you.’ He licked his lips nervously. ‘Selena told me never to trust you. She said you were really Persephone, the Queen of Ice and Darkness, and that your heart was like a stone.’

‘She was still upset about Anoramix,’ I said uncertainly.

‘She blamed you for his death and wanted revenge. She forbade me to tell you that Voltarrix is still seeking Paul. She said that Paul would never be safe, and that no one could protect him.’

‘What does he want with Paul?’

Yovanix spoke as if weighing his words. ‘If it’s true Iskander lost his soul, I think I know why. If Voltarrix captured Paul and put Iskander’s soul in his body, can you imagine what would happen? Paul can no longer call the moon, but he can grow up to lead an army. The Druids are starting to feel the end of their world approaching. They speak of only one thing now; stopping the Romans before it’s too late. Some think it’s already too late. Voltarrix is one of the old ones who believe that time can be twisted.’

‘Twisted?’ I echoed. My voice sounded odd.

‘The druids believe that time can be changed, like a river’s course. They can change it, slow it, or speed it up. With enough work, they can even make it flow backward. Time is the foundation of the druid’s religion’

It was starting to make sense. Time. The Aztecs had foreseen the date their empire would topple, and they had tried to turn back time with their ceremonies. Nothing had worked for them. Nothing would work for the druids. The Romans would take over and usher in the modern world. Unless a boy, who never should have been born, somehow changed time.
It was conceivable – there were still two hundred years. After that, nothing would halt the inexorable march of the Roman Empire and the event that changed the world; the birth of Christ. But suppose the druids somehow managed to unite the Norsemen, Celts, and Gauls against the Romans? What if Paul were somehow the catalyst? Paul – with Iskander’s soul.

I took a deep breath. I would have to think about this. There were three people in the world who should never have been born: Paul, Chiron, and Cleopatra – and I was not supposed to be in this time or place. Anyone of us could, conceivably, change the world. A butterfly’s wings indeed.

Jennifer Macaire is an American living in Paris. She likes to read, eat chocolate, and plays a mean game of golf. She grew up in upstate New York, Samoa, and the Virgin Islands. She graduated from St Peter and Paul High School in St Thomas and moved to NYC where she modelled for five years for Elite. She went to France and met her husband at the polo club. All that is true. But she mostly likes to make up stories..

EXCERPT:

I never met a man whose presence alone made me lose all train of thought. Mute. Total brain shut down because of raging hormonal takeover.
He looked like a young Jude Law with those lips, that jaw, and mischievous green eyes…
Someone jostled me from behind as the subway train jerked into motion again, pressing me even tighter against the hotness who’d stolen my tongue. I stared up — at least a foot — at his gorgeous face. A model’s face. Absolute perfection. His lips quirked.
Oh God…
Forget a panty-melting smile. We’re talking lethal, instantly burst into flames, incinerating crooked smirk.
“Hey.” His low, sexy voice with just a hint of southern twang quivered through my belly.
I nearly swooned and locked my knees to keep upright. My arms in front of me, cell phone in hand, pressed against his rock-hard pecs encased in a gray-green Henley.
Still smiling, his eyes twinkling with an “I know what I do to you” knowing glint, he plucked my phone from my fingers.
I didn’t have a screen lock.
He swiped and tapped while I stared at his mouth, the din of voices and rush of the metal on metal train a din in my ears. He licked his lower lip. Sucked that plump temptation between his teeth.
Good God Almighty.
He pulled a ringing cell from his back pocket, smirked at me again, swiped, and tucked it back while sliding mine once more between my fingers that still rested on his chest.
“Charles Center Station,” a voice squawked over the train’s speaker.
The car jerked again, and his palms burned through my scrubs at my waist as he steadied me. One squeeze on my left hip bone, and the sexy mystery man moved off with the crowd exiting the swished-open doors.
For the first time in five years, I’d gotten on a different car of the Metro. Not the first one in line like always. No. I’d been late because of fighting with Kyle and hopped through the closest open train door.
I craned my neck to watch the mystery man through the hazy window. He disappeared into the throng of the early morning madness of people vying for the escalator to take them up into Baltimore. A step took me closer to the window.
Our gazes collided as he glided upward, and awareness of my need swept through me. Desire like I’d never known.
He disappeared from sight.
The breath fled from my lungs, and I deflated. Holy shit…
I glanced down at my phone, double tapped with a shaking finger, and swiped to bring the screen up.
Devon Smith.
He’d added his contact info. He’d also called his phone from mine so he’d have my number.
I shouldn’t have been giddy, dumbstruck like a teenage girl. I was practically engaged for Christ’s sake, to a man as vanilla as the bean. As boring and safe as I could find. Kyle had left our townhouse in Owings Mills that morning at the same time I had. Travel mugs of coffee in our hands, a peck on the cheek in an attempt at normalcy after our fight, going different directions for most of the day.
Devon…
I glanced at his name on my cell’s screen again and groaned.
“Next stop… Johns Hopkins Hospital,” the squawker sounded again.
And a long ass day sucking dark red blood into vials. Shaking my head, I drew a deep breath trying to fortify myself and bring my wayward hormones back in line with the calm existence I’d chosen to keep myself out of trouble. My college years hadn’t gone so well, partying with my bestie, underage drinking. Typical “finding yourself” youngster stuff, but my choices had caused serious damage.
I stepped off the train and paused as people pushed past me. Jaw clenched, trying to rein in my mind, I shot off a text to my long-time, live-in boyfriend.
Sorry about this morning. Looking forward to tonight’s party.
A little heart-eyed emoji accompanied my words because it would help soothe things over — not because of any lovey-dovey bubbles in my belly — and I turned my thoughts on the sequined, blue dress I’d gotten for his company’s dinner that night. A twenty-five year celebration of their existence — and an excuse to get dolled up, something Kyle and I never did. Then again, we never did anything out of the norm.
I’d grown antsy the previous couple of months, especially since Kyle dealt with major stress at work and oftentimes got short with me for no reason whatsoever, just like what had happened that morning.
But we’d been together for so long. We’d settled into a comfortable relationship, one that wasn’t all passion and rainbows, but hey… at least we had each other.
I forced a smile onto my face and pushed into the office. Chatting with co-workers and patients who needed to have blood drawn and sent to the lab needed to be my focus. A ho-hum job, one I didn’t mind, one that paid my half of the bills.
Telling myself that Devon Smith had simply been a blip on my life’s radar sounded like a lie to my own inner ear.

To Love and Love by LM Spangler

ToLiveAndLove_Small

blurb

Can he show her the world like she’s never seen it before?
Melanie “Mel” Caldwell has everything she could want, except for one thing—a life outside her house. An incident that occurred when she was four years old left her an agoraphobic—a prisoner within the sanctuary of her home. Besides her sister, she finds companionship in the form of handsome delivery man Justin Eberley.
The woman of Justin’s dreams won’t even leave her house, but that does little to tamper his feelings toward her. He finds himself wanting to deliver more and more packages to her house and help her break down the walls she’s built around herself. When she invites him over for a home-cooked meal, he jumps at the opportunity to spend more time with her, although he’s fully aware that any relationship between them will come with its own unique set of challenges.
One night will change both of their lives. Will they find love in the first blooms of spring, or will they let their love slip away?

excerpt

“She’s not well.”
“What do you mean? Does she have cancer or something?”
“No. Agoraphobia.”
“Agora-what? Can you say that in plain English?”
Sam laughed. “She fears leaving her home. Mel hasn’t been out of the house in many, many years. You’ll be delivering a lot of packages to her as I believe she shops exclusively online.”
“Really? I can’t imagine never leaving my house. How does one survive a life like that?” Justin removed his hat and rubbed a hand over his buzz cut hair. “It shouldn’t be humanly possible.”
“Trust me, it is. She’s a remarkable woman though considering. Mel is lively and quick to laugh or smile. You wouldn’t think she was afflicted with such a serious problem. Just don’t ask Mel to leave her front porch, because it’ll never happen.”
Justin shook his head sadly, completely unable to fathom how anyone could live like that. Sure, he hung around his apartment a lot, but he also went out for drinks with his buddies whenever the opportunity arose, went to work every day, and lived his life. He couldn’t imagine what this woman did as living.
“Buck up, Eberley. She’s a good woman. You’ll like her,” Sam said.
“Sure I will.” Justin didn’t bother to hide the sarcasm in his voice. How could he like a woman who was too afraid of the outside world to even leave her house? In his opinion, that was the cowardly way to do things.
Sam’s deep laughter boomed around the delivery truck. “You’d be surprised. That’s all I’m going to say.”
“Ooookaaay,” Justin replied skeptically. Seeing is believing.
Five minutes later Justin believed it. Before him, standing at her front door, was a stunningly beautiful woman. Though short in stature, she had the most seductive curves. And that was just the body. Mel’s face was that of an angel. Smooth, creamy skin beckoned to be stroked by a loving fingertip. Full lips bid to be kissed. Beguiling green eyes lured him into their liquid depths.
She was the complete package.
“Hi, Sam,” Mel said in a voice so seductive it rivaled that of a siren who lured sailors to an untimely end. “Is this your replacement?”
Mel smiled and Justin’s knees weakened. It took a Herculean effort for them to support his weight.
“Yes, it is. Mel, this is Justin Eberley,” Sam said.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you.” She offered her hand.
Justin took the much smaller hand in his. “The pleasure’s all mine, ma’am.”
“Please, call me Mel. Would you care to step in for a drink?”
“Don’t have time. Need to get the truck back to the distribution center so I can show the rookie how we close out the day,” Sam said as he handed Mel her package.
She accepted the parcel and laid it on the floor. “Thanks, Sam. I’m going to miss you, you old coot.”
Sam opened his arms. Mel stepped into the embrace, and Justin suddenly wished he were in Sam’s position. He wondered how she would feel in his arms. The woman elicited such a primal response in him.
Sam released her. “I’m going to miss you too. The newbie will take good care of you and your deliveries.”
“I’m sure he will. You guys drive safe.”
“Have a good day, Mel. It was a pleasure to meet you, and I’m sure we’ll be seeing each other again,” Justin stated with a friendly tip of his hat.
He and Sam ambled to the truck. When inside, Justin unleashed a whistle. “She is gorgeous.”
Sam’s laughter once again echoed in the small confines of the truck. “Told you.”
“I’m glad that one’s single.”
“If you pursue her, then you have to tread carefully. She’s damaged. Remember, Mel won’t leave the house.”
I bet I can get her to come out of her shell.

Excerpt: She raked her gaze over his torso where his white dress shirt protested across his impressive chest and wide shoulders, pushing the limits of how far the material could be stretched. Her fingers itched to smooth out the creases, or better yet, undo every last button and free him from the garment. Oh, to have her hands on his glorious skin. She had to clench her fists at her sides as she took a fortifying breath to center herself.

excerpt

Audri’s gaze ventured back to his eyes as she slowly sauntered toward him, over-emphasizing the sway in her hips. She never broke eye contact and was pleased to see a flash of shock register on his face. What she witnessed next nearly had her tripping in her heals.
Was that desire on his face? Desire? Impossible!
Audri’s pulse raced as she watched his eyes question, almost begging, pleading for her to come to him. He sat up straighter as he uncrossed his legs, planting his feet on the ground while his hands gripped the edge of the desk. Her careful steps led her closer and closer as she tried to push aside the uncertainty of her actions. She wanted him to see she wasn’t intimidated by him—no matter how much she really was intimidated by him.
All else around her faded away as Audri focused on Carson, feeling like David facing off with Goliath. Even with him in his
seated position, his imposing form still seemed to tower over her. She tried not to let that bother her in the least as she stepped right up between his legs, bringing her body within inches of his. Still keeping his gaze, she was rewarded with another hint of surprise before his stare smoldered. Audri swore she could feel the heat radiating off his body, and suddenly she didn’t miss her sweater so much.
She boldly reached out to place her hands behind Carson’s head, her nails lightly scraping his neck, wishing she could release the strands of his lush hair from its confines. She could’ve sworn she felt a shudder roll through him as he closed his eyes and released a shaky breath. When he opened his eyes and smiled, sweet and warm, the heat she now felt threatened to melt her into a puddle of goo.
Ever so slowly, as if not to spook her, Carson brought an arm around her waist while his other hand slowly trailed across her outer arm and down her side. His fingers danced tenderly across her exposed flesh, his touch eliciting tiny shivers as it simultaneously fired her up. The arm snuggling her waist felt like a branding iron, leaving its mark of unrelenting fiery heat. Her entire body began to burn as he pulled her impossibly closer, his powerful thighs encasing her hips and the smooth silk of his shirt grazing her exposed cleavage.
As their breaths increased, mingled, Audri was certain she could hear the frantic beat of their hearts pounding in sync. She
splayed her fingers around Carson’s neck, kneading his flesh, feeling the tense muscles slowly relaxing beneath her touch. Focusing on the steady caress of his hands on her back, she couldn’t look away from the softness in his eyes. She licked her lips, suddenly parched, wishing she could steal the moisture from his mouth with a kiss. And when his gaze shifted to her lips then back to her eyes, maybe he thought the same as he mimicked her move, swiping his tongue across his plump lower lip.
Audri disguised her groan with a remark she knew sounded much too needy.

blurb

The saying goes all work and no play makes life dull. Can three business partners mix love and work? Ron Bailey, Mary Bates and Jeff Nickerson are about to find out. Will uncertainty and moving outside their individual comfort zones stop them from trying?

excerpt

“True. I appreciate your honesty. It’s one of the reasons we get along well.” Mary made her way across the lobby toward the elevator. As Ron caught up with her, she added, “Thanks for being you.”

“You’re welcome. Anything less would be a lie. I can’t fake me.”

Mary chortled. “I certainly can’t imitate you either. I can’t sing in that deep baritone voice you’ve got.”

Ron grinned at her and stuck out his tongue. Mary pressed her lips together, biting back where her thoughts went. She swallowed and gave Ron a raspberry. “Pfffft.” She grinned and said, “Ah well, someday maybe you’ll sing me to sleep the way you do Tabitha.”

“Ask me to stay over and you might get your own special lullaby,” Ron offered.

Mary ducked her head and walked to the elevator, pushed the button and looked back at Ron. He made a semi-bow and walked up to her. He leaned down and whispered close to her ear. “Might also get you to sing out a pleasing orgasm song, too.”

She licked her lips, glanced at Ron and said, “You gotta wanna first. Then see if your piccolo can reach those high notes.”

Ron snorted as the elevator doors opened. He straightened up, shaking his head. He waited until they were inside to respond to her. “Good comeback, dear. I plan on making you reach those high notes again and again after a few auditions.”

“What auditions?”

“Oh, you didn’t know I adore multiorgasmic women?”

Mary pushed the button for the third floor. She fanned herself as she faced Ron. “This multiorgasmic woman might just wear you out.”

“I do so love a challenge,” Ron quipped as they reached their floor.

Mary rose on her tiptoes, kissed Ron’s cheek and replied. “Thanks for helping me relax. You sure can flirt.”

Ron smiled, winked, and walked out of the elevator humming. As she caught up with him, he stopped part way down the hall and remarked. “Maybe I wasn’t flirting.”

Mary opened her mouth ready to zing another cheeky reply when a door close to them opened and Jeff walked out carrying a bulging trash bag. Jeff smiled, and nodded as he walked past them saying, “Trash receptacle needs to eat, too. Go on in.”

Ron snickered, wet one fingertip, and drew a vertical line in the air. He murmured as they entered Jeff’s condo. “Oh you poor thing. Two men with similar senses of humor.”

Mary gawked at Ron as she entered Jeff’s condo. Similar senses of humor? Huh? What had she missed? “What are you talking about?”

“Inanimate objects treated like they’re alive.” Ron placed the pizzas on the pass-through counter. “Like me and the blender? Or my mulish computer?”

Mary smiled and nodded. “Can so relate. I got a few of those dang things, too.”

Ron chuckled. “One item we all have in common.”

“What’s that?” Jeff asked, closing the door behind him.

“Quirky sense of humor,” Mary added.

Jeff grinned at her and faced Ron. “Is that what you were going to say?”

“Yes,” Ron said walking over to her. He reached for the bags she held as he continued speaking. “I think there’s another thing we all have in common.”

Mary looked at Jeff. He shrugged and shook his head. She handed Ron the bags. “Okay, what is it?”

“We care for each other and we’re friends.” Ron set the bags on the counter next to the pizzas.

“I agree,” Jeff said, walking into the kitchen. “Nice to have things to build upon.”

“Build upon?” Mary asked, following him into the kitchen.

“Yes. Did a bit of research before I fell asleep.” Jeff crossed the kitchen to the refrigerator and turned. “Seems multipartnered relationships often have a common ground to build upon.”

“Whoa,” Ron said. He leaned against the doorframe, his arms at his sides. Jeff glanced at Ron’s hands. They appeared opened and relaxed. Good, starting a fistfight wasn’t what he had in mind. Food and discussion was as far as he got in possibilities for evening.

Ron stepped into the kitchen. “There’s a lot of research out there. Some of its based on factual findings. Some on conjecture. Be careful what you believe.”

“Good point,” Jeff replied. “I remember Mrs. Markham’s literature class and the citations we had to come up with.”

“Lord,” Ron groaned. “That woman would hound you on authenticating your findings four times over.”

“Mrs. Markham?” Mary asked opening and closing cabinets.

“Yes, junior year American lit class. What you looking for?” Jeff inquired.

“Glasses. Makes putting ice and soda together easier, you know.”

“My bad. I haven’t unpacked them yet.” He walked over to the box setting closest to the sink and back wall of cabinets, torn the box open and sat three glasses in the sink.

“Did you order everything and have it delivered?” Mary asked, squirting dish detergent on to the sponge in the sink.

“No. Movers packed up my old place and put stuff into storage about four months ago. Mia oversaw that for me. She called the people who helped her and Stan move.” Jeff rinsed and dried each glass.

“I’m hungry. Let’s get food on the table and we can talk more then, okay?” Ron was at the stove with the oven open. “It’ll take about five minutes to warm up the pizzas.”

“I’ll take care of the salad,” Mary said, taking the bowl Jeff held out to her.

“I’ll set the table.” Jeff started back across the kitchen toward the pile of boxes he’d gotten the glasses out of.

“One of the bags has plates, napkins, and utensils in it. Why not use them?” Ron asked, placing one of the pizzas in the oven.

Jeff emptied the bags on the table, laid out plates, napkins, and packaged utensils. “Oh, double chocolate brownie. Thanks, dude. Haven’t had one in a while.”

“Yes. Mary lays on her side. I’m behind her. You’re in front. If she puts her leg over ours once we’re in, that should allow both of us access and room to maneuver.”

“Sounds doable,” Jeff offered. He pointed to his limp cock. “Don’t we need hard-ons to do it?”

“We sure do.” Ron stroked his cock. “Mary, how are you gonna help us out?”

“I love tasting each of you. How about a BJ?” Mary rolled over close to Ron. “How we gonna do condoms and lube?”

“I got a suggestion,” Jeff said. “I wanna watch you and Mary for a bit. The thought of watching you two is turning me on.” Jeff stroked his semi-hard cock.

Mary looked at Ron, who grinned and nodded. “Oh yeah. Watching your lady getting pleasured is a great turn-on. Mary, my cock wants a kiss.” Ron scooted closer to her until she lay between his legs, close to his crotch. “I’m ready for a BJ.”

She cupped Ron’s balls, fondling them lightly and let go. Raising up on her knees, she clasped him with one hand leaned down, taking him into her mouth. Up and down she bobbed twice. On her next downward swallow, she tightened her lips around him only going half way down. Flicking her tongue back and forth in quick short strokes, she focused on the most sensitive part of Ron’s cock, the head.

“Ahhh,” Ron groaned. “Yes. Get me hard. Tease me.” His hips jerked as she cupped his balls tightly to him, her fingers finding the space between his balls and ass. The spot where his dick and ass met. One stroke, a lick, another stroke and—

“Keep it up and I’m gonna come.”

Mary let go and eased him out of her mouth. “Hmmm. Love getting you hot.”

“Thanks, babe. On your side so I can get you ready.” Ron opened the lube, squeezed some on to his hand, and worked down and over his cock. He grabbed a condom packet and tore it open. He eased the condom on, rubbed lube all over it, and put a large dollop in his hand. He kneeled on the bed.

Mary laid on her side, raised one leg, and started playing with herself. “Stay like that. I’m lubing you up.”

He leaned forward, rubbing his hand slightly between Mary’s ass cheeks. He looked up, caught Jeff’s attention, and said, “Hand me the towel, please.”

Jeff picked up the towel and moved closer to him and Mary.

Ron took the towel, wiped his hand, and lay down tight to Mary. He rocked his hips forward as he laid his hand on her hip, using his other to part her ass cheeks. Warmth…heat increased the more he rocked tighter to her. The lube worked over and around him with each thrust. He clasped Mary’s hip and pressed forward.

“Easy,” Mary said. “Let me get used to you for a moment. You’re almost in.”

“Take a deep breath and blow it out like you did earlier. Relax and let me know when you’re ready for more.” Ron glanced over Mary’s shoulder.

Jeff’s gaze met his. He nodded and moved to the edge of the bed. Stood and walked over to the nightstand. “I’m getting ready, too.”

Mary raised her head, looked over her shoulder, and grinned. Jeff’s cock stuck out hard and ready for action. His hands shook as he tried to open the condom packet. He blew her a kiss, opened the packet, and put the condom on.

Jeff smoothed the condom out as he watched Mary rock back toward Ron. Her hand slid down her stomach, not stopping until she dipped two fingers between her pussy lips. She licked her lips as she dipped both fingers into her and pulled them back out.

“I’m ready for more,” she moaned, rocking back tight against Ron.

“You got all of me, darlin’. Lift your leg and I’ll be balls deep in the hottest, tightest part of you.”

Jeff sat on the bed, leaned over, and kissed Mary’s leg. She gazed up at him. Her eyes were semi-closed. Her flushed cheeks said more than if she’d spoke herself. Ecstasy and desire coursed through her bubbling like lava waiting to erupt. He knew that look well. Watching her stroke herself to orgasm turned him on a lot. Right now, he ached. Ached with need to feel her tighten around him as he and Ron rocked her to a strong orgasm, setting their own off in turn.

He lay on his back, closer to Mary and Ron. Turning on his side, he reached for Mary’s hand. “Let me help.”

Mary tilted her head to his, her lips puckered. Jeff brushed his lips against Mary’s and pulled back. She reached between them, gently grasping him as she lifted her leg. “Come on in, honey. Fill me fuller.”

  • What inspired you to write your first book? I’ve written since I was in grade school. I wrote long elaborated stories that echoed my love of reading. Fast forward a few years and a bunch of rejections later, and I found that romance mixed with an erotic element got my muse juicy. The rest is the 6 books I have with Siren-Bookstrand.

  • How much real life do you put into or influences your books? As much as is possible without copying from peoples real life. Dare to Love Again is influenced by my own triad and a relationship that broke off two years ago.

  • If you could choose, which published author would you like to brainstorm with and why? There are two Laurell K Hamilton and Robert H. Rimmer. I’ve met Laurell and she is a fave author of mine. She pushes the envelope in creativity and bringing stories to life that keep me intrigued. Robert Rimmer passed away back in the late 90’s. He wrote about alternative lifestyles and different ways of loving and relationships. Most of his books had a bibliography at the end of them that lead me to wondering why and what if. I learned about new insights and venues of looking at life from reading his stories.

  • What are your current projects? I’m working on a contemporary romance and a few paranormal stories

  • When choosing the title for your book(s) do you have a process or do you wing it? I wing it. Usually as the story writes I find one or two title that come to mind. One usually sticks because it works with my characters Goals Motivation and Conflict.

  • What was the hardest part in writing your book(s)? Finding time in between family, day job and other activities to sit down and stay captured by my characters.

  • Generally, how long does it take you to complete a book from idea to handing it over to your publisher? Depends on time and how the story is flowing. Sometimes 3-4 months. Other times longer.

  • Do you ever use someone in your life as a sounding board for ideas or are you a lone wolf? I use others as sounding boards at various points. I’m also a lone wolf too.

  • Do your travel to research for your book(s)? No travel is for writing retreats unless I’m at conference that I’m helping out at or perhaps speaking at.

  • Did you learn anything while writing your book(s)? Yes, I love to write and tell me the story at the same time.

  • Have you ever had an idea for a book but never written it and what is it? Oh those ideas are super secret see they percolate to come about at another point.
  • Is there any one (or more) author out there that has influenced your writing? See my answer about Laurell K Hamilton and Robert H Rimmer

  • Do you have any advice for new authors looking to make their own literary statement? Write the book all the way through. The first draft is for you. Then revise, edit, and polish. Don’t be afraid to tear the story up and cut parts out. It hurts but in the end you have a far better story and one your readers will love and enjoy.

  • How many books have you written? Do you have a particular favorite? Six books. My favorite is always the one I’m currently working on.

  • When you were little, did you ever think you’d be a published author? What was your “dream” job as a child? See my earlier answer

  • What was the worst job you ever had while working towards being a published author? All jobs pay the bills. I work full time in the financial services industry to pay the larger bills.

  • And last, do you have anything you would like to say to your current readers or to those that haven’t yet read your work(s)? Want a romance with a spicy kick? A different view point and insight…try mine. I like romance with my sex and sex with my romance. So do my characters.

I hadn’t seen Mason in so damn long, and I wasn’t certain my presence would be welcome even now. I’d had a crush on him for as long as I could remember, even when I’d just been a little girl. My daddy had always taken me to work with him, and I’d gotten to know all the guys at his shop over the years, but it had always been Mason who fascinated me. As I grew, my feelings for him changed from that of a little girl to a young woman. It was my fault he’d left, even though I’d never told anyone, and never would. If my dad had ever found out what I’d done…

I took a steadying breath as I stared at the gates of the Dixie Reapers’ compound. No one knew I was here, and I wanted to keep it that way. I was in some serious shit right now, and it wasn’t fair to drop it on Mason’s doorstep, but I didn’t know where else to go. There was no one in my life I trusted right now, not even my own family. No, especially not my own family. Some slut with three kids had convinced my dad to marry her a few years ago, and I’d been pushed to the side. I’d quickly understood how Cinderella must have felt, being given all the crap jobs around the house and shop, and getting nothing in return. At least, as long as I was under the step-monster’s roof I wasn’t getting anything. Moving out helped a bit.

Things were different now, though, and not in a good way. Before Dad had died, I’d moved out. He’d been helping me pay rent, though, so I could be a nicer area. After his death, that helped came to a screeching halt, and I’d been forced to move into a not-so-great place. I’d found out at the reading of Dad’s will that he had apparently left his shop in my care if anything ever happened to him, along with half his life insurance policy. My step-monster only received fifty thousand dollars and the house, which I’d been told had a second mortgage on it. Needless to say, the woman wasn’t happy and would stop at nothing to get her hands on my inheritance. It had taken a while for everything to get sorted out and my inheritance actually handed over to me.

I wasn’t certain if I wanted to thank my dad for trying to take care of me at the very end, or scream at him for putting me in this position. Legally, there wasn’t a damn thing that Tia could do about the shop and money. But then, she’d never been one to follow the rules. I’d noticed some questionable-looking men following me lately, and I wondered if maybe she’d hired someone to do something to me. Especially after a few unexplained accidents happened. According to my dad’s lawyer, if anything happened to me, the money and shop would go to Tia. It had been a provision in my dad’s will apparently, stating that unless I was married with children, then step-mommy-dearest would inherit if I were to die. And since I wasn’t married and didn’t have any kids to leave the money to… yeah, I was pretty much screwed. I didn’t see how that could possibly be legal in this day and age, but what the hell did I know?

The gates mocked me as I stared at them. I could see the shadow of a man standing just on the other side, likely a guard of some sort. He hadn’t called out to me, but then I hadn’t exactly gotten any closer either. I took another breath to steady my nerves and approached, putting one foot in front of the other. My fingers wrapped around the iron bars and I stared at the man on the other side. He eyed me up and down, giving me time to look him over too. He seemed to be a few years older than me. “You here to party with the club?” he asked.

“I’m here to see… Zipper.” I hated that fucking name. To me, he was Mason, would always be Mason. Or maybe it was why he had that name that I hated so much. He’d been part of the Dixie Reapers even when he’d worked for my dad. Then he’d left and opened his own shop. The only times I’d seen him since then were glimpses around town, but I’d always hidden and kept my distance, knowing he probably hated me.

“He expecting you?” the guy asked.

“No. He used to work for my dad. Please, it’s important that I see him. I’m not here to cause trouble.”

The guy snorted and made a shooing motion. “Sorry, doll, but if you aren’t expected, you’re not getting in. You’re either an old lady, or you’re here to suck cock. And since it appears neither applies to you, you can just turn around and walk away.”

“But you don’t understand…”

He pointed again toward the driveway. There was only one way I was getting inside, but I didn’t know if I had the courage to follow through. I rubbed my hands up and down my denim-clad thighs and blew out a breath.

“Then maybe I’m here to party,” I said, wishing immediately that I could call back the words.

The man’s eyebrows rose, and he opened the gate. I cautiously walked past him, a little worried he might reach out and grab me, maybe force me to suck his cock. I hadn’t ever done something like that before, and the thought of sucking off a complete stranger made my stomach bubble and flip. I hurried toward the clubhouse and raced up the wooden steps. When I reached the door, I slowly pushed it open. Music and smoke battered at my senses as I stepped inside.

My eyes went wide when I saw the mostly, and in some cases completely, naked women prancing around. A few couples were openly having sex in front of everyone, and my heart started racing in fear. What the hell had I gotten myself into? And did I really want to see Mason in this setting? I knew he wasn’t an angel by any means, but I didn’t like the thought of him being with all these women.

I caught sight of him toward the end of the bar, his Dixie Reapers leather cut looking every bit as sexy on him as I’d thought it did six years ago. I felt a tingle working its way through my body, and my nipples hardened as I got closer to him. A few people jostled me along the way, but I forged ahead, hoping like hell I hadn’t made a huge mistake…

Matt couldn’t hear what Jacen said, but his facial expression telegraphed plenty. Jacen slashed his hand through the air and he shook his head. Matt busied himself with straightening the counter space and trying not to watch Jacen. Fuck. How could he not? The man featured in his dreams and had become his favorite spank bank material. He swept his gaze over Jacen. The denim shorts hugged his hips and accentuated the strength in his legs. Jacen rubbed the back of his neck with his fingers and flexed his upper body.

Jesus. Was Jacen trying to turn him on? If so, he’d accomplished his mission. Matt plopped onto the stool and pressed his knees together. Blood rushed to his cock and his mouth watered. Just a few touches. Kisses. He didn’t want much. Really.

“Mother fucker.” Jacen whipped around and held his phone in a white-knuckled grasp as he strode back to the desk. “He’s a piece of shit. Where are those peas?”

Matt offered up the bag. “Whoever it is, I hope you lit into him.” He shut the laptop down, then moved the device to the lower portion of the counter. “Better pick up your key before you forget.” He slid the card across to Jacen. “Have a good night…well, a better one than you’ve had so far.”

“Huh?” Jacen glared at Matt and plunked the bag back onto his bruise. “Are you here all night? I thought Cady hired on people to work the desk so you and her weren’t stuck.”

“She did, but this is my night. I have to earn my keep somehow.” He grinned to hide his displeasure. “I can’t feed my music and running habits without some source of income.”

Jacen tucked his phone into his pocket and lingered at the counter. “Want some company? I came here to work on music, yeah, but that wasn’t the only reason.” He offered up the bag. “I’ve melted this.”

“I’ll stick it back in the freezer. No problem.” He gripped the melting frozen food. “Stick around a moment in case anyone comes in and I’ll put it back.” He left Jacen alone long enough to put the peas in the fridge. He’d probably make them for lunch the next day instead of wasting them. When he returned, Jacen had rounded the counter.

“All good?” Jacen asked.

“I’ve got lunch for tomorrow.” He tensed. “Thanks for holding down the fort.” He expected Jacen to leave, but instead, he crept closer to Matt.

“I didn’t just return for Rory and the music. I came here for you, too.”

“Me?” He frowned. “What?” He had to be hearing Jacen wrong. No way Jacen meant that.

“Uh, yeah. You.”
